The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for controlling photochemical exhaust gas cleaning equipment of internal combustion engines. The exhaust gas cleaning equipment consists of a photo catalyst that is arranged in the exhaust gas section of the internal combustion engine, at least one radiation source allocated to the photo catalyst, at least one exhaust gas sensor situated downstream in relation of the photo catalyst and a control device which is connected to the radiation source, the internal combustion engine and the exhaust gas sensor, whereby the connection is carried out either directly or via control means. According to the invention, a) A portion or a concentration of at least one pollutant component is detected in the exhaust gas by means of the exhaust gas sensor (20). A mass flow for the pollutant component is thus determined and provided in a control device (22) which is connected to the radiation source (12), the internal combustion engine (16) and the exhaust gas sensor (20), whereby the connection is carried out either directly or via control means (24, 26). b) A working mode of the internal combustion engine (16) and/or the radiation source (12) is controlled using the respective control means (24, 26) according to the mass flow of the pollutant component.
