An apparatus and method for releasing sufficient and fine sound from a handheld electronic device of a thin housing body which includes an opening for mounting a keyboard panel and a sound releasing acoustic structure. The handheld electronic device is comprised of a rotatable display unit provided along one edge of an upper surface of the housing body so as to cover an upper surface of the thin housing body when the handheld electronic device is closed. The sound releasing acoustic structure provided in the thin housing body is comprised of a first sound opening provided in the upper surface of the housing body and a second sound opening provided in a side wall of the housing body for releasing sound even when the rotatable display unit is closed. <IMAGE>
