Tuned actuating fluid inlet manifold for a hydraulically-actuated fuel injection system

The manifold has a device for pressurising actuating fluid and a number of hydraulically-actuated injectors adapted to be supplied with actuating fluid from the manifold. The manifold is adapted to be positioned in fluid communication between the pressurising device and the injectors. The manifold has a common rail passage and a number of rail branch passages extending from the common rail passage, each rail branch passage adapted to be positioned in fluid communication between the common rail passage and a respective injector. The manifold has a fluid dynamic tuner for controlling the flow of actuating fluid between the manifold and the injectors and thereby reducing the initial rate of fuel injection produced by each of the injectors.
