A platform lift suitable, although not exclusively, for the rear of a vehicle such as an ambulance 10 comprises a lift platform 24 which is horizontally hinged so that it can be stored in a vertical position so as to close an access opening (figure 1), but can be pivoted outwards to a second position in which the platform is accessible to allow a load such as a wheeled trolley to be moved onto the platform (figure 6), and can then be moved to a third position in which the platform engages the ground. The platform may be lowered horizontally to the ground or alternatively be pivoted so as to form a ramp (figure 7). The platform may include hand rails (30) and also a ramp extension (27) and wheel stop (29). When located at the rear of a vehicle the platform may be adjacent to a conventional vertically hinged door 13 which it engages with when in its stored upright position (figures 1 and 4b). |
