<p>A dorsiflexor exercise apparatus comprises a rigidly mounted heel support 6 and an exercise bar 12 adapted to be engaged by the metatarsus (toes) of a foot, the exercise bar being pivotally linked 4 to the heel support. The heel support may be mounted in a heel support stand 7 and there may be a pair of heel supports, and a pair of exercise bars mounted on either side of a heel support stand. The exercise bar or bars may be adjusted by sliding a female portion 14 relative to a male portion 15. The dorsiflexor exercise apparatus may further comprise a seat 21 that is provided with a seat support 24 that is preferably at 45{ to the vertical. The apparatus may also comprise a system to which a variable number of weights 31 may be applied. In a first embodiment (fig 1, not shown), this system comprises a spigot (17) located at the distal end of an arm (3). In a second embodiment (fig 2), this system comprises ropes 34 and pulleys 33 linking the exercise bar and the weights 31. In use, the dorsiflexor exercise apparatus may be used to treat shin splints or may be used to develop or repair one or more of the anterior compartment muscles.</p> |
