摘要 The invented annular bearing compartment (24) is intended for turbomachines that include a shaft extending axially through the machine, wherein said bearing compartment (24) supports the shaft (10) and is comprised of an annular bearing assembly (26) coaxial with the shaft (10), wherein said bearing assembly (26) is comprised of an inner bearing race (28) being rotationally fixed to the shaft (10), an outer bearing race (30) spaced radially outwardly of said inner bearing race (28), and a plurality of circumferentially spaced apart roller bearings (32) between said inner and outer bearing races (28, 30). The annular bearing compartment (24) further comprises an annular bearing housing (34) that is provided with a first end (68) and a second end (72). The first end (68) includes a first carbon seal (70) and the second end ((72) includes a second carbon seal (74). The first and second carbon seals (70, 74) serve for sealing the bearing housing (34) at the first and the second ends (68, 72) about the rotating shaft (10). The annular bearing housing (34) and the carbon seals (70, 74) form a sealed annular oil cavity (44) surrounded around the shaft (10) by the bearing assembly (26) that is constructed and arranged such that the roller bearings (32) are located within the oil cavity (44). It further comprises a first wall (50, 54) spaced therefrom and located between the first and the second ends (68, 72) of the bearing housing (34) and being in sealing relation to said bearing housing (34), wherein the first wall (50, 54) and the nearing housing (34) cooperate to define a first annular air cavity (118, 120) that surrounds said oil cavity (44) between the first and the second ends (68, 72) of the bearing housing (34). A second wall (52, 56) being provided with a first end (60) and a second end (64) is placed at a certain distance from the first wall (50, 54) and is sealed at the first end (60) and at the second end (64) of the second wall (52, 56) around the rotating shaft (10), wherein the second wall (52, 56) form a second sealed annular air cavity (122, 124) surrounding the first sealed annular air cavity (118, 120) and the first and second carbon seals (70, 74) of the bearing housing (34).
