VIBRATING GYROMETER

A vibrating gyrometer comprising a vibrating cylinder (1) magnetically energised by an internal stator (8) to generate vibration that is sensed using light beams transmitted from an LED (9) and passing through an air-gap (38) between said stator (8) and the wall of said cylinder (1), whereafter the beams are modulated by the vibration of said wall and impinge on photoelectric sensors (11). The resulting gyrometer is both highly accurate and cheap and simple to manufacture, and may be used wherever an angular speed measurement is required.
