A method of setting electronic circuits within an electronic device such as a radio telephone in which one or more parameters of the circuit are checked in turn. The resulting output from a parameter under check is compared with a desired standard and if necessary an adjusting data signal is supplied to the circuit to alter its output towards the desired standard and the output rechecked. Once the output matches the desired standard the adjusting data signal is stored by the circuit. This check is continued through all of the parameters to be checked in turn. The electronic circuit includes a variable component whose value depends on the stored data and program means are provided to control the operation of the circuit so that the variable component operates according to the data stored. The invention provides a method of calibrating radio telephone circuits quickly and automatically either during their initial set up or during service to ensure that they meet the required specifications.
