PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the whole thickness thin and prevent reduction in gas volume by reducing air-flow resistance in an air cleaner utilizing a photocatalyst. SOLUTION: Construction of this cleaner is such that a light source is a light emitting diode and that its light emitting surface is approximately flush with the surface of a wall forming the air passage of a base substance. Since the light source does not project into the air passage, increase in air-flow resistance is avoided and reduction in gas volume can be prevented.
