PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a simple and convenient cutting apparatus allowing a person having almost no training to easily cut flatwise surfaces of wood and plastics. SOLUTION: In this apparatus, an electric plane moving smoothly on a guide rail cuts a surface of a working material placed on a table. The electric plane is moved manually by an operator. A mechanism wherein the guide rail is always parallel to the table, and a parallel clearance can be adjusted by a thickness of the working material, is adopted. This mechanism adopts a principle wherein at least one set of opposite sides of a parallelogram or an equilateral trapezoid are always parallel to each other, and the clearance is changed according to change of an interior angle.
