PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a crimped yarn having a periodic cross-sectional deformation in the axial direction of single filament constituting the yarn when observed in the longitudinal direction of the single filament and to provide a method for producing the crimped yarn. SOLUTION: This crimped yarn is a yarn constituted of a plural number of filaments, has a cross-sectionally deformed part in a period of <=20 mm pitch in the axial direction of the filament and a zigzag two-dimensional crimp folding back at the cross sectionally deformed part. This method for producing the crimped yarn comprises knitting an undrawn yarn(UY) or a half drawn yarn (POY) into a knitted fabric, drawing the knitted fabric in a heated state or at a normal temperature and deknitting the knitted fabric.
