PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new iridoid derivative having high effectiveness as an antiinflammatroy agent and an antiautoimmune disease agent. SOLUTION: This iridoid derivative is 2-formyl-5-(3', 4'- dimethoxybenzoyloxy-3-methyl-2-cyclopentene-1-acetaldehyde represented by formula I or 2-formyl-5-(4'-methoxybenzoyloxy-3-methyl-2-cyclopentene-1- acetadehyde represented by formula II.
