PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the durability of a cover to cover the surface of a base and miniaturize a machine tool. SOLUTION: A through hole 14 is formed in a movable body 4 on which a workpiece supporting head or a tool head 3 is leaded, and the cover 11 covering the surface of the base 11 penetrates the through hole 14. Therefore the movable body 4 can be moved without displacing the cover 11 at all. Thus, highly durable covers 11 are easily manufactured from highly rigid metal plates. The movable body 4 can be moved to a position closely near a support member 9 to support the end section of the cover 11. This contributes to the miniaturization of a machine tool A.
