PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain the wear of ceramic plates which are the side gates, and enable a long time operation with a stable condition in production of thin sheets by twin-drum system continuous casting by surely a bringing a lubricant in a sliding surfaces without needing complicated equipment and works. SOLUTION: In the continuous casting, after molten metal 4 is poured into a pouring basin 3 surrounded by a pair of rotary cooling drums 1a, 1b and side gates 2a, 2b, a cast metal thin sheet is produced by cooling and solidification of the molten metal on the rotating surface of the cooling drums. A liquid lubricant, consisting of solid powder, thermosetting resins and water, is supplied in a fine grain state to end faces of the drums to form solid lubricant films there by the heat of the end faces. Then, the lubricant film formed is surely brought in the sliding surfaces between the drum end faces and side gates. Thereby, the formation of uniform lubricant film and satisfying application of the lubricant to the sliding surfaces, both of which can not be obtained by conventional lubrication technology, are made possible.
