PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a thermoplastic resin composition excellent in impact resistance and appearance of moldings, and further to provide the thermoplastic resin composition obtained by the method for the production. SOLUTION: This method for producing the thermoplastic resin composition comprises the following first and second steps: the first step: a step for obtaining a melted and kneaded compound by melting and kneading 100 pts.wt. copolymer (A) obtained by graft polymerizing an alkenyl aromatic monomer on an ethylene-α-olefin-based copolymer, and 20-300 pts.wt. thermoplastic resin (B) having an aromatic ring; the second step: a step for adding 30-1,900 pts.wt. component B to the melted and kneaded product obtained by the first step, and melting and kneading the resultant mixture (with the proviso that the total of the amount of the component B used in the first step and that used in the second step is 50-200 pts.wt.).
