PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermoplastic resin foam excellent in heat resistance (dimensional stability to heating), mechanical strengths, and lightness in weight and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: This foam, prepared by foaming a thermoplastic resin, is excellent in mechanical strengths, heat resistance, and lightness in weight since it contains a fibrous matter which has an aspect ratio of 30-5,000 and is contained in such a state that the length directions of the matter are oriented in the same direction.
