PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect breakage or damage in a conveying belt conveying a recording medium in an early stage in an ink jet recording device so as to find an abnormal condition before the conveying belt is broken and so as to prevent secondary damage due to a collision or a scratch in a recording head or other constituent mechanisms caused by a torn conveying belt in the case of breakage of the belt. SOLUTION: An ink jet recording device is provided with a conveying means conveying a recording medium, a recording means recording an image on the recording medium, an image reading means reading the image recorded on the recording medium, and a light emitting means arranged in the vicinity of the image reading means.
