PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for excavating the ground having a height difference, which can build an elevated temporary road crossing a valley and a working platform for mounting a heavy machine, without constructing a temporary road for guiding a pile driving machine to the bottom of the valley. SOLUTION: A telescopic boom 2 of a traveling crane has a pipe 3 swingingly hung from the front end of the boom 2. An auger machine 8 is connected to the lower end of the pipe, for rotatively driving an excavating casing 6 and an auger screw 7 in mutually opposite directions. Furthermore, an excavating casing motion preventing apparatus B is attached to a support 11 for supporting a traveling roadbed for the traveling crane, and expansion/contraction and derricking of the telescopic boom are adjusted according to the progress of ground excavation by the excavating casing and the auger screw. Thus, a pit can be excavated in the ground having a height difference with respect to the traveling roadbed of the traveling crane.
