PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high luminance tube such as sodium lamp having long life and low production cost, and provide a process for easy production of the lamp. SOLUTION: This invention relates to a new light-emitting tube produced by using a quartz glass or a synthetic quartz glass as a base material for the tube and forming a corrosion-resistant film on the surface and to a process for the production of the tube. The corrosion-resistant film is formed by coating the base material with a mixed solution of yttria fine particles and a silica-based alkoxide by sol-gel method, drying in air, baking in air and baking in vacuum or in an inert gas. A corrosion-resistant film composed mainly of a compound oxide of yttrium and silicon can be produced by this process. The film can be formed at a relatively low baking temperature even by using yttria.
