PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air cleaner which can clean indoor air against various contaminating factors and be easily maintained. SOLUTION: This air cleaner has a fan in the upper portion of the main body, a gas-liquid contact portion therebelow and water sprinkling means thereabove, an air inlet, a water-receiving tank in the lower portion, a circulating pump from the water-receiving tank to the water sprinkling means, a water supply valve and drain valve, a drain water level sensor, an upper limit water level sensor, a lower limit water level sensor a washing nozzle in the upper portion of the water-receiving tank. The air cleaner further has a tank for a chemical agent containing a sterilizing component and chemical agent transporting pump and a control unit for controlling the water supply valve so that the water level is maintained between the upper limit sensor and lower limit sensor in a normal operation mode. The control unit controls opening and closing of these valves so that, in a washing mode, the drain valve is opened, washing is performed by the washing nozzle, the drain valve is closed and the water supply valve is opened to supply water in the water-receiving tank and that the chemical agent transporting pump is activated and the chemical agent is injected in the water-receiving tank to restore the normal operation mode.
