PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a packaging apparatus capable of preventing creases from generating at the upper part of a film covering a packaged matter, regardless of shapes of a tray or the packaged matter. SOLUTION: A packaging apparatus which thrusts a matter to be packaged against a film held at its both sides and tucks up the periphery of the film onto the bottom of the matter to be packaged comprises a plurality of clamps 25-29, a plurality of tuck-in boards (rods), motors 61a-61e and 62a-62e, and a controller 9. The controller 9 calculates stretching forces of film, based on loads of the motors 61a-61e and 62a-62e, and controls timings for releasing holding of the film by the clamps during packaging works, based on the stretching forces of film around the clamps 25-29.
