PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which can move eccentrically without requiring a dive means, e.g. a motor, dedicated for an eccentric guide shaft. SOLUTION: The printer prints on a recording sheet 28 through combination of main scanning of a carriage 2 mounting a print head 1 in the direction orthogonal to the sheet feed direction and a sheet feed roller for carrying the recording sheets, at a specified interval, in the sheet feed direction. An eccentric guide shaft 4 supported rotatably, at the opposite ends thereof, by eccentric shaft parts guides the carriage 2 in the direction orthogonal to the sheet feed direction and the carriage is movable in the sheet feed direction through rotation of the eccentric guide shaft. The printer further comprises a mechanism 100 for converting the motion of the carriage in the main scanning direction into rotary motion of the eccentric guide shaft.
