PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly durable ink-jet printer which can prevent ink channels from being clogged by settling of magnetic particles and can print with a continuously high printing quality by ink of a uniform ink density. SOLUTION: A platen 10 is horizontally supported in an ink-jet printer 1 and driven by a motor 14. An ink-jet head 2 and an ink tank 16 are mounted on a carriage 18 arranged opposite to the platen 10, which slide on a guide rod 20 to scan in a horizontal direction and moreover move to above a wiping device 25 and a purge device 26 to clean an orifice. The carriage 18 approaches the vicinity of a coil 32 of a magnetic stirring device 3 and is wholly brought under the effect of a magnetic field by an a.c. magnetic field generated from the coil 32. As a result, a magnetic ink MI in the ink-jet head 2 and ink tank 16 is stirred. The carriage 18 is demagnetized when separating.
