PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fishing reel free from the trouble of unintentional return of a clutch from OFF state to ON state while keeping smooth clutch-switching operability. SOLUTION: The fishing reel is provided with a clutch mechanism capable of switching the spool 8 rotatably supported on the reel main body 2 between a freely rotatable state and a line-winding state. The spool is switchable from the freely rotatable state to the line-winding state by the rotating operation of a handle 12 and an unintentional return preventing mechanism is placed between the stationary part of the reel main body and the mobile part of the clutch mechanism. The unintentional return preventing mechanism is composed of a pin 46 as an engaging member attached to the right frame 4b constituting the stationary part and an engaging hole 48 as an engaging part to enable the engagement of the pin and formed on a clutch plate 36 constituting the mobile part. The pin is constantly forced toward the clutch plate by a spring 50 and engaged with the engaging hole when the clutch lever 18 is operated to switch the clutch to the OFF state.
