The present invention teaches targeting constructs and methods of use thereof for creating transgenic animals in which at least one single-copy, non-essential gene is replaced with a reporter expression cassette, for example, a luciferase gene operably linked to a promoter heterologous to the single-copy, non-essential gene. Thus, the present invention provides novel methods and vector constructs useful for the generation of transgenic animals. The invention further includes methods of using these animals. |
