PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new organic compound which can exhibit a high luminous efficiency, when used as a constituent for organic electroluminescence elements (organic EL elements), and to provide an organic EL element using the same compound. SOLUTION: An organic compound of the general formula (I) (the symbols are as described in the specification). An organic EL element has an organic luminescence layer nipped between a pair of electrodes, and the organic luminescence layer contains the organic compound of general formula (I).
