PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize an untrathin card type printer. SOLUTION: A thermal sheet 8 is held against a thermal head 11 by means of a non-roller type platen 12 and fed by means of a sheet discharge mechanism 15 disposed on the sheet discharge side thereof. The non-roller type platen 12 is thin but it can press the thermal sheet with uniform pressure. The sheet discharge mechanism 15 has a small diameter but it can be protected against distortion by supporting the shafts 16a, 17a of rollers 16, 17 in the way thereof. Consequently, a thin and compact assembly 10 can be obtained and a printer as thin as 5 mm can be realized.
