PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for generating printing data whereby the printing data is generated to finish a printing process in a predetermined time. SOLUTION: Whether data to be printed is a text file, whether the data is monochromic and a quantity (the number of characters and a size of images) of the data are detected (S301-S303), and compared with a set time and an efficiency of an image-forming apparatus which executes the printing. When it is judged that a printing process is not finished in the set time by the original data, printing data is generated by converting color data to monochromic data (S308 or S309) or decreasing a resolution (S311 or S307), thereby reducing the quantity of data.
