PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plant extract that includes a large amount of sphingo lipids useful in foods, cosmetics, medicines and the like and a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: This plant extract is produced by defatting the gummy matter obtained in the production process for plant oil with an organic solvent and subjecting the defatted matter to the extraction with water or an alcohol. The production process for the plant extract comprises (A) the process where the crude fat and/or oil is collected by squeezing the plant bodies or extraction- treating the plant bodies with an organic solvent, (B) the process where the collected crude fat and/or oil are heated and combined with an acid to precipitate the gummy matter, (C) the process where the precipitate is allowed to sediment into the crude oil layer (the upper layer), the gum layer (the middle layer) and the aqueous layer (the bottom layer) and the middle gummy layer is fractionated, (D) the process where the separated gummy matter layer is extraction-treated with an organic solvent and the extract is removed to collect the defatted matter, (E) the process where the defatted matter is extracted with water or an alcohol to separate the extract and (F) the process where the resultant extract is concentrated to obtain the objective plant extract. |
