PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for inhibiting fouling of heat transfer surfaces in contact with petroleum or hydrocarbon feedstocks by using an antifoulant and to provide an apparatus for supplying an antifoulant. SOLUTION: In this method and apparatus, a heat transfer surface fouled e.g. by coke formation in pyrolysis furnaces during thermal cracking is brought into contact with an effective amount of a phosphorus-sulfur compound which is selected from among mono- or di-substituted thiophosphate esters, phosphorothioites, phosphorothioates, and thiophosphonates and which has been thermally treated at 160-500 deg.C; and a phosphorus-sulfur compound thermally treated with a low-temperature reactor is injected into a coil of a pyrolysis furnace. |
