PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new polyol-based compound, an antioxidant containing the polyol-based compound as an active ingredient, and a food and drink having antioxidative ability imparted by adding the compound. SOLUTION: This new polyol-based compound is the one represented by chemical formulas 1 or 2, or a salt thereof. The antioxidant contains the polyol compound or the salt thereof as an active ingredient. The food and drink is obtained by adding the polyol-based compound or the salt thereof thereto.
