PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the meneuverability of a chair having a locking function. SOLUTION: In a case 19 attached to a seat bearer 2, many friction plates 20 for regulating the moving range of a first shaft 6 moving rearward interlocking with the rearward inclination of a back rest are arranged. When a handle 22 is rotated to move a rod 21 in the axial direction by a cam 31, a group of friction plates 20 are switched to a locked state that they are pressed by a locking spring 28 so as to be immovable and to an unlocked state that the group of friction plates 20 are movable. The friction plates 20 are urged to an advancing direction by a resetting spring 27. When the back rest is inclined rearward under a state that the friction plates 20 are unlocked, the group of friction plates 20 are pressed by the first shaft 6 to be moved rearward. When an adjusting means is locked after the back rest is inclined rearward to a desired position, the retracted position of the first shaft 6 is regulated to adjust the rearward inclined range of the back rest in accordance with the desire of a user.
