PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem such that the bottom face of a work is susceptible to friction flaws as it slides to contact the upper face of die or knockout when transferring a held work toward downstream process or the like in a transfer device of a transfer press. SOLUTION: The transfer device is arranged to form a space which prevents the bottom face of the work under transfer from sliding to contact the upper face of the die or knockout by providing a vertical and near-and-far movement mechanism 120, 120 which allows a pair of transfer bars, 1A and 1B, to move vertically as well near-and-far, and also by providing a vertical and near-and-far drive mechanism 140, 140 which drives the vertical and near-and-far movement mechanism so that it moves a pair transfer bar, 1A and 1B, vertically and also near to and far from the held position and not held position.
