PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston excellent in durability, lightweight, and manufacturable at low cost. SOLUTION: This piston 14 comprises an engagement part 70 to be engaged with a swash plate through a pair of shoes and a head part 72 to be fitted to a cylinder bore. The engagement part 70 slidably retains the shoes in a pair of recessed parts 114. The head part 72 comprises a head body part 120 and a cover member 122 as a blocking member for blocking the opening of the head body part 120. The engagement part 70 and the head body part 120 are made of an aluminum alloy having a silicon content of 5-13 wt.% and integrally formed by casting. The cover member 122 is formed of a thermosetting synthetic resin containing glass fiber as reinforcing material. The cover member 122 is fixed to the head body part 120 by adhesion and caulking. The engagement part 70 requiring wear resistance is formed of a material excellent in wear resistance, and the top side of the head part 72 requiring no wear resistance (cover member 212) is formed of a lightweight and inexpensive material.
