PURPOSE: A recording material is provided to clearly record figures and characters without accompanying bleeding or the like when the figures and characters or the like are recorded by presently existing various kinds of recording methods. CONSTITUTION: At least on one surface of a base material, a resin layer jointly containing a larger particle diameter sponge silica, of which the particle diameter is 8 to 18 microns, and a smaller particle diameter sponge silica, of which the particle diameter is 1 to 7 microns, is provided as a recording accepting layer for this recording material. The sponge silica means a silica of a sponge structure having a fine pore in the silica particle. The fine pore volume of the sponge silica used for this recording material preferably is 0.7 to 7 ml (milliliter)/g, and preferably is 0.8 to 4 ml/g. When the fine pore volume of the sponge silica is too small, there is a tendency that the recording accepting property of the accepting layer becomes lower.
