PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a circuit breaker with improved breaking performance by quickly communicating an arc generated between a movable contact a fixed contact to an arc runner. SOLUTION: A circuit breaker comprises an insulating frame consisting of a base 1 and a cover 2, a fixed contact 3 mounted in the insulating frame, a movable contact 4 opposed to and moved close to or apart from the fixed contact, an arm 5 for supporting the movable contact, an arc runner 8 for communicating an arc generated in opening the movable contact, an arcing room 10 for arcing and an arc distinguish device 7 for distinguishing an arc, wherein a transition member 1b is provided between the opening position of the movable contact and the arc runner, extending vertically from the main face of the base 1 or the cover 2, for accelerating an arc generated between both contacts to transit between the fixed contact 3 and the arc runner 8.
