PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device, in which adverse effect caused by hysteresis characteristic of polymer dispersion liquid crystals is eliminated, and a driving method of the device. SOLUTION: In voltage-transmissivity characteristic curves of the polymer dispersion liquid crystals, different curves are obtained while a voltage is raised or lowered. In order to eliminate the hysteresis characteristics, pixel display is conducted only for a voltage raising direction. A common voltage (an applied voltage of opposing electrodes) is applied to one row in a display screen and the row is scanned toward a bottom end direction. Then, display picture data are applied to other row and the row is scanned in the same direction above. Note that a common voltage is applied to the pixels in a range A. Thus, the common voltage is applied to all pixels and after a prescribed time is passed, the original display picture data are applied. Since picture display is conducted using a liquid crystal rising direction, no adverse effect caused by the hysteresis characteristic exists and a good gradation display is obtained.
