PURPOSE: A method for recovering a cell border in an ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) exchange system is provided to control a read enable signal and a record enable signal for a corresponding cell slave board when the cell border is damaged. CONSTITUTION: A system performs a transition to a ready state by receiving a valid cell signal, and activates a read enable signal, then confirms a cell start signal. If the cell start signal is in an inactive state, the system performs a transition to a reconfirming state to inactivate the read enable signal, and simultaneously reconfirms the cell start signal. If the cell start signal is in an active state, the system activates the read enable signal, and simultaneously activates a record enable signal. The system receives a cell word from a cell slave board(40) to process the cell word.
