PURPOSE: An idling preventing and automatic restarting method is provided to restrain fuel consumption due to idling of an engine and to prevent environmental pollution due to exhaust gas by automatically stopping engine driving during temporary stoppage or parking. CONSTITUTION: An idling preventing method comprises the steps of: turning on a start switch after deciding completion of engine start; detecting engine rpm, detecting temperature of engine cooling water when engine rpm is an idling rpm, deciding a time elapse regardless of detection of the temperature, and cutting off an ignition switch of an engine after specific time; returning to the step for deciding completion of engine start if a throttle valve is opened; and finishing idling control process without idling or throttle valve opening, or specific time does not elapse while the temperature of engine cooling water is less than a warm-up temperature. When a vehicle stays for a stop signal or stops, driving of an engine is stopped automatically. Thereby, fuel waste due to idling of the engine and environmental pollution due to exhaust gas are prevented.
