PURPOSE: A metallic particle detector for gas insulated switchgear is provided to prevent dielectric breakdown by detecting the presence, position and size of metallic particle without service interruption or disassembly of the gas insulated switchgear. CONSTITUTION: Vibration sensors or ultrasonic sensors(16,18) are mounted at the bottom of a gas insulated switchgear metallic container(8), and a metallic particle(11) is arranged to reciprocates between the metallic container and a high voltage conductor(7) by an operation voltage. Thus, the vibration or ultrasonic signal generated from the collision of the metallic particle against the metallic container is detected by a metallic particle detector for the gas insulated switchgear. The metallic particle detector includes a signal processor having BNC input connectors for each channel, a data processing module for removing noises from the signal, a memory device for storing only the signal generated from the collision of the metallic particle, and a central processing unit for analyzing, through a metallic particle detection program, the signal stored in the memory device.
