PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for obtaining a coordinate of other party by using an IMT-2000 terminal are provided to obtain a relative coordinate for the other party away from a user by a given distance and to display the relative coordinate on the terminal. CONSTITUTION: When a user pushes a key selection part(201) in an IMT-2000 terminal to select a mode for obtaining a relative coordinate for the other party, the part(201) send a selection signal to a main processor(206). A GPS receiver mounted in the terminal receives a time data and a latitude and longitude data from a satellite(1) and outputs the data to the processor(206). A laser distance detector(203), a high-angle sensor(204) and an azimuth sensor(205) determine a distance, a high-angle and an azimuth from the user to the other party in respective and output the data determined to the processor(206). The relative coordinate(B) for the other is calculated by using the data determined and transmitted to a control station(100) by an antenna. The relative coordinate(B) is also display on a map in the terminal screen by an image outputting device(207).
