PURPOSE: An apparatus for refrigerating a semiconductor chip is provided to enhance cooling rate and effect by predicting a rise in temperature of the chip. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus includes a cooling fan(204), a heat sink(205) and a controller(206). The cooling fan(204) and the heat sink(205) are used to refrigerate the chip(202). The controller(206) detects a current supplied to the chip(202) from a circuit board(200). The chip(202) is a central processing unit, for example. A value of the detected current is compared with a prescribed value by an operational amplifier contained in the controller(206). Then, according to the comparison data, the controller(206) adjusts the magnitude of a current supplied to the cooling fan(204) to vary a speed of revolution of the cooling fan(204).
