PURPOSE: A device for preventing sudden acceleration is provided to inhibit sudden acceleration by forcibly separating a clutch from a transmission upon sensing of a factor of sudden acceleration. CONSTITUTION: A sudden acceleration prevention device comprises: a throttle position sensor(10); an accelerator position sensor(11) interlocking with the throttle position sensor; an intake air quantity sensor(12); a crank angle sensor(13) detecting a crank angle for calculation of RPM(Revolution Per Minute); a P/N switch(14) detecting the position of a gear of a parking range or a neutral range; a warning lamp(15) lighted on upon inputting of a warning signal; an engine ECU(Electronic Control Unit)(16) discriminating a sudden acceleration mode corresponding to the outputs from the sensors, outputting a sudden acceleration signal, controlling engine RPM in an idle state, outputting a warning signal, and writing a sudden acceleration flag in a RAM(Random Access Memory); and an automatic transmission ECU(17) blocking up movement of a vehicle by forcibly separating a clutch from a transmission upon inputting of a sudden acceleration signal. If an engine RPM is over a specific level, sudden acceleration is decided. Then, fuel supply to an engine is stopped with forcible separation of the clutch from the transmission. Therefore, a vehicle is blocked up from moving although gear position is changed to a drive range or a backward movement range from a parking range or a neutral range.
