PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device in which influences of a reflection layer having a rugged pattern on the electro-optic characteristics of the liquid crystal is suppressed as much as possible and defects in domains or the like are prevented, and to provide an electronic appliance using this liquid crystal device. SOLUTION: The device has a liquid crystal layer held between a first substrate and a second substrate, and a reflection layer having a rugged pattern formed on the liquid crystal layer side of the second substrate. The thickness of the liquid crystal layer is larger on the recessed part than on the protruding part. In this device, an alignment film having different film thickness is formed on the protruding part and on the recessed part of the reflection layer having the rugged pattern in such a manner that the film thickness of the alignment film in the recessed part is larger than the film thickness of the alignment film in the protruding part. |
