PURPOSE: An apparatus for selecting the incoming sound of a mobile telephone and a method thereof are provided to use a desired music as the bell sound of the mobile telephone by outputting MP3 music of a memory device from a mobile station modem to speaker when an incoming call is generated in the mobile telephone. CONSTITUTION: A memory device(22) stores MP3 files. A decoder(23) decodes the MP3 files from the memory device(22). A signal converter(D/A converter)(24) converts and amplifies the decoded signal to output a speaker(17). A microcomputer(21) transmits the MP3 files of the memory device(22) to decoder(23). An MP3 player(20) comprises the microcomputer(21), the memory device(22), the decoder(23) and the signal converter(24). A mobile station modem(11) controls the mobile telephone and the microcomputer(21).
