PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin film magnetic head and a manufacturing method provided with a structure capable of making manufacture processes be in common and quickly manufacturing the thin film magnetic heads corresponding to the specifications of a center element type, a side element type, an up type and a down type, etc., at a low cost. SOLUTION: Three thin film magnetic head elements 111-113 are formed at the center and both ends of a slider and a wiring pattern for selectively connecting the thin film magnetic head elements to first - fourth contact point pads 141-144 is formed in a multi-layer structure for which plural connection conductors 121-124, 131-134 and 161-164 cross. The connection conductor of a lower layer and the connection conductor of an upper layer are conductively connected at a prescribed crossing part corresponding to the specifications of this thin film magnetic head and the one of a normal type and a cross type relating to the connection of a thin film coil is selectively manufactured for the respective four kinds of the thin film magnetic heads that are the up type and down type of the center element type and the up type and down type of the side element type.
