PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic dimension entering mechanism which can be applied to the conventional two-dimensional CAD system which has high degrees of freedom for designating two dimension entering points, entering auxiliary dimension lines, dimension lines, dimensional values, etc., at the time of entering dimensions and functions to register in advance the CAD data of each member or assembly combined in its design stage in each see-through direction as CAD parts and to make the drawing of each member by arranging the CAD parts on a screen through operations including CAD parts selecting operation from a menu, arranging condition inputting operation, position designating operation by means of a position inputting device, etc. SOLUTION: Such a function that records the distance between the center points of corner sections by correlating the distance to the straight line elements of the corner sections as the data of actual dimension of the actual corresponding parts or assembly with respect to each CAD parts 1 and, at the time of entering dimensions after the CAD parts are combinedly arranged, automatically enters a character string indicating the above-mentioned actual dimension between desired corner sections along the direction of a straight line element designated from a position inputting device together with the dimension lines is constituted for this CAD system.
