PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of controlling the defrosting heater of a refrigerator which can prevent the increase of the power consumption which occurs when a heater is driven continuously and the temperature rise and icing phenomena of a freezing chamber, by turning on and off the defrosting heater in specified cycles. SOLUTION: The control of the defrosting heater of a refrigerator is performed by performing, in order, the stage of accumulating the drive time of a compressor and checking that it has reached the time fit for performing the defrosting, the stage of executing the defrosting by turning on the defrosting heater if the defrosting is the first attempt since it has reached the above fitted time, the stage of checking the present ON/OFF time of the defrosting heater unless the defrosting is the first attempt since it has reached the above fitted time, the stage of turning on the defrosting heater when a specified time has passed since it the defrosting heater was turned on or got in off condition, and the stage of terminating the defrosting action by turning off the defrosting heater when the temperature of a cooler reaches the temperature of turning off of the defrosting heater.
