PURPOSE: A keyboard for a PDA is provided to reduce the number of keys needed to a keyboard, and to input a character or a word if possible by assigning a plurality of characters to one key, and to promote the thinning of a potable digital apparatus by reducing a size of the keyboard occupied. CONSTITUTION: Keys are arranged in the form of a matrix in a key pad(2). A buffer(3) temporarily stores a character code inputted from the key pad(2). A system memory(5) stores a dictionary mode execution program. A flash memory(6) stores a dictionary. A processor(4) is connected between the buffer(3), the ROM(5) and the flash memory(6), and transmits the character code selected to a host.
