PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wireless communication system where a configuration of a base station can be simplified and down-sized. SOLUTION: The wireless communication system of this invention has a base station 1 and a control station 2 interconnected by optical fibers. Signals received by element antennas 6-1 to 6-n in the base station 1 are converted into signals with different frequencies by frequency converters 7-1 to 7-m respectively, a multiplexer 8 applies frequency-multiplexing to the converted signals to convert them into optical signals, which are sent to a control station 2 via the optical fiber 3. The optical signals sent to the control station 2 are converted into electrical signals. They are converted into signals with the same frequency by frequency converters 23-1 to 23-m, weighting circuits 24-1 to 24-m apply weighting to them, a multiplexer 25 multiplexes the weighed signals and the resulting signal is demodulated by a demodulator 26. A level detector 27 detects a maximum strength and/or a strength distributing of output signals of the frequency converters 23-1 to 23-m and generates a control signal for controlling the directivity of a transmission signal to the base station 1 on the basis of the result of detection. This control signal is multiplexed on the transmission signal, and converted into an optical signal, which is sent to the base station 1. |
